The FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) registration is mandatory for any food business operator (FBO) in India. Whether you are a manufacturer, retailer, distributor, or involved in food service, you need an FSSAI license or registration based on your business size.

Step-by-Step Process for FSSAI Registration

Determine Your Eligibility

FSSAI offers three types of registrations/licenses based on business size and turnover:

| Basic Registration (FSSAI Registration) | Small businesses with turnover ≤ ₹12 lakh/year | 1 to 5 years |

| State License (FSSAI State License) | Medium businesses (turnover ₹12 lakh to ₹20 crore/year) | 1 to 5 years |

| Central License (FSSAI Central License) | Large businesses (turnover > ₹20 crore/year) or import/export businesses | 1 to 5 years |

Documents Required for FSSAI Registration

- For Basic Registration:

- ID proof (Aadhaar, PAN, Voter ID, etc.)

- Passport-sized photograph

- Business address proof (Rental agreement/utility bill)

- Food safety management plan (if applicable)

- For State & Central License:

Online Application Process

1. Visit FSSAI’s FoSCoS Portal – [https://foscos.fssai.gov.in](https://foscos.fssai.gov.in)

2. Click on "Apply for License/Registration"

3. Fill Form A (Basic Registration) or Form B (State/Central License)

4. Upload Required Documents

5. Pay the Fee Online (varies based on business type & duration)

6. Submit the Application

Inspection & Approval

- After submission, an FSSAI officer may inspect your premises.

- If approved, you will receive your FSSAI Registration Certificate/License via email.

Display FSSAI License Number

- Once received, display the 14-digit FSSAI number on your food products, packaging, and business premises.

Processing Time & Fees

Renewal of FSSAI License

- Renew before expiry (can be done 30 days prior).

- Late renewal attracts a penalty (₹100/day for Basic, ₹5,000 + ₹100/day for State/Central).
